Another site that Bed and Breakfasts should get listed on

This just came out yesterday Map Quest Launches Local Business Listings Center.

Similar to Google Local and the fairly new Bing Business Portal, a business can get listed with a basic business listing for free.

There is some confusion apparently about the Search Engine Land article, as people seem to be under the impression you have to pay to list. The basic listing IS free and you can sign up HERE. (Unfortunately like the Bing Portal, so far it is only for US businesses.)

A basic listing gives you the option of up to 5 categories to list a business, a website URL, hours, some additional space for text and photos.

The article says it takes up to two weeks to list, but I got an email confirmation within 10 minutes and a phone call in under an hour confirming the business (warning, of course they will try to upsell you to the paid listings.)

It appears that it may take awhile for the listing to actually show up on Mapquest. I’ll update this post when I have a better idea of a time frame.

Updated: June 29th, I received an email this afternoon letting me know my listing was up. A bit more then a week to list but still under the amount of time it seems to be taking for Google and Bing to list and verify,

  1. Many thanks for bringing this to my attention. It’s really frustrating that these tools aren’t available to Canadian businesses at this time – hopefully it won’t be too long before we can get listed also! I will let you know when it does, so you can notify your readers.
